Improving the Bass Response of Schroeder Diffusers

چکیده

Room acoustic diffusers can be used to treat the acoustics of critical listening environments to improve speech intelligibility and to make music sound better. The development of the modern sound diffuser can be traced back to the pioneering work of Schroeder, who developed the phase grating diffuser. These consist of a series of wells of different depths separated by fins. The order of the well depth sequence is determined by a number theoretic sequence. If the quadratic residue sequence is used, then the diffuser produces grating lobes of similar energy at most integer multiples of the design frequency. Figure 1 shows a cross section through an N=7 quadratic residue diffuser.

Maximum length sequence and Bessel diffusers using active technologies

Active technologies can enable room acoustic diffusers to operate over a wider bandwidth than passive devices, by extending the bass response. Active impedance control can be used to generate surface impedance distributions which cause wavefront dispersion, as opposed to the more normal absorptive or pressure-cancelling target functions. This paper details the development of two new types of ac...

A transient boundary element method model of Schroeder diffuser scattering using well mouth impedance.

Room acoustic diffusers can be used to treat critical listening environments to improve sound quality. One popular class is Schroeder diffusers, which comprise wells of varying depth separated by thin fins. This paper concerns a new approach to enable the modeling of these complex surfaces in the time domain. Mostly, diffuser scattering is predicted using steady-state single frequency methods. ...

Acoustic Diffusers: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

The modern acoustic diffuser has an ability to attract comment, some say they sound good, some say they sound bad; some designs look beautiful and others are ugly. Proper amounts of the right diffusion are credited with contributing to spectacular acoustics, too much of the 'wrong' diffusion gets blamed for ruining one hall, while the lack of scattering in another is held responsible for a poor...

Lüke and power residue sequence diffusers.

Conventional Schroeder diffusers have been successfully used for many years. However, their frequency range is limited by the flat plate effect that occurs when all the wells radiate in phase. This occurs at harmonics of p times the design frequency f(0), where p is the small prime that is used to generate the structure. A typical diffuser, using p=7 and f(0)=500 Hz, has an upper frequency limi...

First record of Gyroconulina columellifera Schroeder & Darmoian, 1977 (larger benthic foraminifera) from the Maastrichtian Tarbur Formation of SW Iran (Zagros Fold-Thrust-Belt)

The larger benthic foraminifera Gyroconulina columellifera Schroeder & Darmoian, 1977 (type-locality: Maastrichtian Aqra Formation of Iraq) is described for the first time from two sections of the Maastrichtian Tarbur Formation of the Zagros Fold-Thrust-Belt, SW Iran. New details on its wall microstructure are provided. The microfacies is represented by bioclastic wacke-/pack-/grainstones with ...
